RYE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - An elderly resident at a Westchester County nursing home was apparently beaten up by an intruder overnight.
Police say a 72-year-old woman woke up just after 2 a.m. Monday and found a hooded intruder with a knife in her fourth floor apartment at the exclusive Osborn Retirement Community in Rye.

Rye Police Commissioner William Connors said the man assaulted her.
?Both her eyes were swollen shut. She had some lacerations to the face and head. There was some blood around the apartment. It appeared to be a pretty significant struggle,? Connors told WCBS 880 reporter Sean Adams.
The woman, who managed to pull a knife on her attacker, is recovering.
The intruder got away but left behind a bag with a suspicious device that looked like a pipe bomb, police said. The bomb squad was called in to investigate.
Police suspect the woman might have been targeted and perhaps the intruder had some kind of inside knowledge of the community.
?It?s highly unusual for something like this to happen in that facility,? Connors said.
Osborn security apparently first spotted the man and called police but the attack occurred as officers arrived at the scene.
