Beaufort Police seek suspects in church burglary

Authorities are searching for a 33-year-old Beaufort man they say was involved in an Aug. 4 burglary at the Baptist Church of Beaufort in which credit cards and property worth $1,200 were stolen.

Ricky Edward Smith is wanted by the Beaufort Police Department on a felony financial transaction card theft charge, according to the department's Facebook page. If convicted, he faces a $3,000 to $5,000 fine, up to 5 years in prison or both, according to state law.

Two Beaufort women, ages 33 and 34, were arrested in November in connection with the incident at the church, located at 600 Charles Street. The women, who were charged with misdemeanor use of the credit cards, posted $3,000 and $5,000 bonds respectively less than a week after their arrest.

Police also have been searching for a fourth suspect, Joshua Leonard Reed, 31, of Lady's Island, since Aug. 7.

Those with information on the suspects or the incident can call Investigator Dowling at 843-322-7950 or make an anonymous tip by calling 843-322-7938.
